Wear the Same Clothes - How Routine Can Boost Your Building Business

Flat lay of a building business owners daily clothes - how routine can boost your building business

Wear The Same Clothes

I read an article recently saying that successful people, like Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs, wear the same clothes every day so they don’t have to waste mental resources deciding “which outfit!” Amazing, right? But it’s true! Making decisions takes heaps of mental energy and time.

When you conserve energy by minimising choices, you have more available to get those choices working effectively. This is crucial for builders whose jobs demand a daily deluge of decisions. The idea is simple: To preserve brain space for the big calls, cut back on the less significant ones. The collective weight of your choices, layered over and over each other, creates what psychologists call decision fatigue. Officially, that’s the “deteriorating quality of decisions made by an individual after a long session of decision-making.”

That’s why successful builders follow routines. We are told that 80% of what a business does can be locked up into routine! And routine work doesn’t take much brain power. This means that the majority of each day’s work can be done with little mental energy. Wow! What a stress reliever that is.

So, do the hard thinking once – quickly – then create the routine and focus on getting that routine working in your business. You may even want to engage some help in making better decisions. It’s the way to sanity.
